The Main 4 Types of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Nowadays, people are getting obsessed with Artificial Intelligence (AI) especially after developing Sophia the Robot in October 2017. So, let’s tackle the 4 main types of Artificial Intelligence and how it got developed by time:

• The Reactive Machine:

It’s a reactive machine that reacts depending on the present moment, it doesn’t store memories or have a past experience. So, this type can do great with playing games as it has the ability to recognize which move would be the best.

Samples of this type: Deep Blue, the chess-player machine and Alphago the Go-player machine.

• The Limited Memory Machine:

This type differs a little than the reactive type as it saves specific objects of the past that leads them to react according to. However, this memory is just a short-term memory.

Samples of this type: self-driving cars, chat robots and traffic lights.

• The Theory of Mind Machine:

So, this type is more intelligent as it reacts according to understanding people thoughts and emotions, these machines can adjust with people around, build social interactions, predict how people expect to be treated, and thus behave according to these expectations.

• The Self-Awareness Machine:

This is the extension of the Theory of Mind type.

In a sense, self-awareness concept refers to the “consciousness”. So, this type of machines is more aware of their needs and internal sense than we are the human beings.

Also, these machines have the ability to understand consciousness which we don’t.

People are being confused whether this AI is going to help or destroy us in the future.
